About the MAJ

The MAJ is the oldest professional association in Jamaica. Originally constituted as the first overseas Branch of the British Medical Association (BMA) in 1877, in 1965, after intense lobbying for independence from the BMA, the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) was formed. The membership of the MAJ represents all specialties and includes medical students.

The MAJ is the umbrella organization for all professional medical associations and societies in Jamaica. Each Professional group has a representative elected to sit on the Council of the Association. Past Presidents, Branch Chairmen, and Chairman of special committees also sit on Council.
